Infeld Haus der Kultur
11.03.2023 to 10.12.2023

After the exhibition "Not a dream, just an experience" with Art Brut works from the Infeld Collection in summer 2022 at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU) in Zagreb, this year exceptional Croatian artists will be presented at the Infeld Haus der Kultur in Halbturn. Art works from the Infeld Collection complete the exhibition.

For the first time in Austria, the exhibition "Finder of miraculous” (“Wunderfinder") provides a representative insight into the impressive diversity of the outstanding Art Brut and Outsider Art collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb. Approximately 50 works on canvas, paper and wood by 17 artists invite discussion of social conditions and art historical concepts. The works were created in the last 40 years.

The Infeld Haus der Kultur in Halbturn is showing the exhibition "Croatia: Art and Sound" with works by key figures of Croatian art from the Infeld Collection. The first in the series is the outstanding representative of Art Nouveau Vlaho Bukovac (1855-1922). He was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, was considered a prince among painters and a cosmopolitan artist who also produced 400 portraits and 150 paintings. His two female nudes, which can be seen in Halbturn, appear lively, yet delicate and fragile at the same time.

Created by laymen and of impressive quality, the works of art in the exhibition "Art & Sound" span several centuries. The objects follow a predefined iconographic pattern and are loaded with symbolism without being primarily a creative expression of the painter. They quench the viewer's thirst for the unknown.
An outstanding example are the Tibetan scroll images of religious content (so-called thangkas). Painted on linen or silk, the thematic arc spans from icons of historical personalities to the pantheon of Tibetan Buddhism to complex religious-philosophical illustrations.

The exhibition features a rapid trajectory across the art of the 20th century. Roughly 150 pieces by 30 artists from important private collections show how three periods set the stage for the contemporary visual and stylistic language in Austria: the years from 1908 until the end of World War I, the decade following World War II and the 1990s.

The "Stars & Guitars" exhibition features works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, Steve Kaufman, Mel Ramos, Kiki Kogelnik and other well-known Pop Art artists as well as rare guitars from the Infeld collection.
Pop Art moved the striking visual world of advertising and the mass media into the aesthetic focus. From bizarre to critical, artists delivered an imaginative interpretation of commercial products. It was not about a direct adoption of what was found in everyday life: The subjects were overdrawn, distorted, fragmented, endlessly duplicated and boosted to the point of absurdity. A unique iconography and visual language was created: recognizable, reduced, expressive.
