Dream House
Municipal District Office Margareten, Vienna, Austria
The dream house (Traumbau), created mainly by artists of the naïve painting style, is the focus of this year's exhibition in the court house Margareten. Works by outsider artists such as August Walla and Johann Garber round out the "Phantasmapolis" exhibition. All exhibited works of art come from the Infeld Collection.
Due to his illness, Emerik Fejes spent almost 20 years in his one bedroom apartment on the outskirts of the city of Novi Sad, Serbia. Colorful postcards helped the former trader in bric-a-brac and autodidact to undertake and capture numerous imaginary trips. He dragged the big world into his dreary room: Budapest, Vienna, Moscow, Florence, London. Famous landmarks in colorful colors shine thanks to his architectural creativity and artistic freedom. The work of Emerik Fejes is known and appreciated around the world.
The trained carpenter Dragutin Jurak is another artist traveling in his mind. Professor Krsto Hegedusic, the mentor of the Croatian naïve masters, taught him the basics of painting. Since then, Jurak painted the most beautiful palaces, buildings and ships all for his own enjoyment.
